What is ASR?

ASR is an Articular Surface Replacement for the hip. In this , the cup is of metal. The original femoral head is shaved to a perticular shape on which large, globular metal cap is placed, to make metal on metal articulating. This kind of surgery is meant for only selected young arhritic patients. ASR is to be avoided in young femals and patients with metabolic disorder.
